EVENTS

 5/4/2008 Annual Mothers Day Reception- May 4, 2008 ::
 This annual event is an initiative by the ADC Michigan Greater Detroit Chapter, to recognize, award and honor outstanding mothers in the Arab American community. The program highlights and awards a couple women while displaying their dedication and achievements. The event includes music, poetry and inspirational words from special guests on the topic of motherhood.

 1/25/2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Award Dinner- January 25, 2008 ::
This annual reception is held to honor high school students who participate in ADC’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship program.  Through this program, Arab and Chaldean American high school seniors are asked to write an essay about what the message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. means to them as Arab/Chaldean Americans.  A panel of educators from area schools then judges the student essays.  Depending on the funding made available from various corporate and community sponsors, the judges select a specific number of students to receive college scholarships.  These students are then honored at a community reception set around Dr. King’s birthday.  Attendance at this reception is by invitation only and usually is of a very diverse nature.  All keynote speakers in the past have been prominent members of the African American community in the Detroit area.

 The wonder of this program is in it dual goals to provide Arab American and Chaldean high school students with college funding and to help educate them about the ongoing struggle for civil rights.  In the program’s short span, it has grown to reach out to students in over 50 area high schools and has attracted prominent members from both the Arab American and African American communities.  To date, ADC, through the help of many generous sponsors, has been able to give out thousands of dollars in scholarships.

 12/25/2007 ADC Michigan Secret Santa ::
ADC Michigan will be assisting needy families and children during the holiday season, by proving them with gifts and basic holiday needs to help make their holidays more joyous. In 2003, in the spirit of giving and sharing, ADC Michigan launched an initiative to deliver "Holiday Gift Baskets" and gifts to less unfortunate families in the community. Many of these packages have been donated to ADC Michigan from individuals and local businesses and corporations. ADC Michigan is, again, reaching out this year to those who are in need and distributing gifts to local families. These gifts will be hand delivered next week to families. Help make this holiday season a happy one for a child, or needy family, by providing a gift that can be dropped off, or mailed to the ADC Office (13530 Michigan Avenue, Suite 329, Dearborn, Michigan, 48126). For more information, call 313-581-1201

 12/19/2007 ADC Michigan to Host Celebration of Diversity ::
On Wednesday, December 19, 2007, the ADC Michigan "Kids Club" will host its 8th Annual Celebration of Diversity. Every year, in the spirit of the Holiday Season, ADC works to provide children with gifts to promote diversity and share in the spirit of giving. This year, ADC volunteers will distribute gift certificates and goody bags, donated by generous sponsors to the winning classes in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at a local elementary School. The contest asks classes to design a “Unity Collage,” depicting diversity and the celebration of the many holidays this season.   It is ADC’s hope that this event will, not only provide children with a happy holiday season, but will also promote the message of unity and understanding in the post 9/11 era.

Last year, gift bags were distributed to all participants at Geer Park Elementary.  The three winning classes (one from each grade) were awarded gift cards from last year’s corporate partners, Wal-Mart and CVS Pharmacy.

ADC Michigan expresses its great appreciation to its 2006 Diversity Partners, CVS Pharmacy and Wal-Mart and to the other sponsors who contributed to the success of this unique ceremony: LIFE for Relief and Development, the Pepsi Bottling Group, Coca Cola, Frito Lay and the US Army National Guard.
