Save the Date: ADC MI Advisory Board to Hold 11th Annual Judges Night
ADC MI Advisory Board Calls for Nominations for 11th Annual Judge’s Night The ADC Michigan Advisory Board has opened nominations for judges for the “Guardian of Justice” Award, which will be presented at this years’ 11th Annual Judge’s Night Reception on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. The Advisory Board is currently accepting nominations for judges who have been exemplary in upholding civil Rights in their courtrooms, to receive this prestigious award. Nominations must include the name and courthouse of the Judge, along with a brief summary of why the Judge should be nominated, including the Judge’s accomplishments and unique rulings. All nominations should be sent to the Judge’s Night Committee at adcmichigan@adc.org. Nominations deadline is August 15, 2012.

He is the first Arab American to hold this position. Atty. Farhat is an Advisory Board Member of ADC Michigan.
Syrian American Medical Society to Host Syria 911: Medical Crisis Fundraiser On Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, the Syrian American Medical Society will host a fundraiser to address the medical crisis in Syria. BRIDGES to Hold its Periodic Meeting on April 17, 2012 Featuring U.S. Assistant Attorney General, Thomas Perez: On Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:30AM , Building Respect in Diverse Groups to Enhance Sensitivity (BRIDGES) will hold its second meeting featuring Mr. Thomas Perez, Assistant Attorney General of the US Department of Justice - Civil Rights Division as the meeting’s special guest. Invited members represent various government agencies and community leaders, including Barbara McQuade, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. BRIDGES is currently Co-Chaired by Mr. Imad Hamad, ADC Regional Director and Patricia Fantazian of the Federal Air Marshals. The meeting is by invitation only. U.S. Attorney General to Host Community Forum On Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 5:30pm, the U.S. Attorney General will host a community forum on the topic: Where Do We Go From Here: Civil Rights in a Multi-Cultural Society. Speakers will include Thomas Perez, U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and Bankole Thompson, Editor of the Michigan Chronicle. The Lebanese American Heritage Club (LAHC) is celebrating their 24th Annual Arab American Scholarship Foundation Dinner The LAHC will be hosting its 24th. Annual Scholarship dinner on Friday, May 11th, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel-Dearborn. The VIP Reception starts at 6:00 p.m. and the main program begins at 7:00 p.m. The mission of this program is to provide scholarships to deserving and underprivileged Arab American students who possess the skills and desire to seek higher education. Town Hall Meeting on Immigration On Friday, May 17th at 6:00pm, Building Respect In Diverse Groups to Enhance Sensitivity (BRIDGES) will host a public town hall meeting to discuss immigration at the City of Dearborn City Council Chambers. The town hall meeting is open for public participation and it will include presentations and a question and answer session. The event will include welcome remarks by Dearborn Mayor O’Reilly and U.S. Attorney of the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara McQuade. The guest speakers will be SAIC Brian Moskowitz – HSI-IO, USCIS Director Mick Dedvukaj, and ICE-ERO Director Rebecca Adducci. ADC Michigan to Participate in Panel On: A Year in Tahrir: The Future of the Arab Spring and its Implications in the US On Saturday, April 14th from 9:00am – 4:30pm, the Program for International Legal Studies at Wayne State Law School, along with the National Security Network and the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding is hosting a conference to discuss the Future of the Arab Spring and its Implications in the United States. ADC Michigan’s Director Imad Hamad will be participating in a panel discussion about how Arabs are viewed and perceived around the world.
