Did Israel Kill Arafat Jaradat
Using our Tax Dollars?

Dear Imad,

Today ADC sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry requesting an investigation into the case of Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat who died in Israeli prison on February 23, 2013. ADC is particularly concerned that funds made available by US military aid to Israel were used by the Israeli security units behind this gross human rights violation.

Although initial Israeli reports claimed Jaradat died from a heart attack, a recent autopsy conducted by Palestinian officials revealed that Jaradat was tortured to death. Jaradat was killed a mere six days after his initial arrest on February 18th. Senior United Nations officials have voiced concern about his detention and death and called for an independent and transparent investigation.

The “Leahy Law” prohibits the US from sending aid to governments whose security forces commit “gross violations of human rights” -- Israel is not exempt from this rule.

Take action now! Contact the State Department directly and ask them to conduct an investigation into the matter! When composing your message, be sure to use the email topic: "U.S. Foreign Policy: Middle East," and for the subject use: "Were my tax dollars used to kill Arafat Jaradat?"

Suggested language to include in your message:

The State Department should investigate allegations that Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat was tortured to death in Israeli prisons last month. State should also identify the Israeli unit responsible for this gross violation of human rights. Mr. Jaradat died in Israeli jail on February 23rd. Although initial Israeli reports claimed Jaradat died from a heart attack, an autopsy conducted by Palestinian officials revealed, instead, that Jaradat was tortured to death.

I don’t want my tax dollars to fund foreign states committing gross violations of human rights. I urge Secretary Kerry to speak publicly about the allegations of Jaradat's torture, which led to his death, and to start an investigation into the matter immediately.

Thank you for taking action!

In solidarity,

ADC National Team
